During the Cold War, thousands of Americans worked to build their country's nuclear defense system. Today, many of them have become sick and an equal amount has already died from illnesses directly associated with these jobs. Miners, engineers and technicians did top-secret work that exposed them to radiation, heavy metals and chemical poisons. The sick and the dying, are fighting another kind of cold war - this time, against their own government. Thousands have applied for the compensation that congress established for them in 2000. Most, have never seen a dime.
Since this documentary was finished, two of the ex-nuclear workers depicted in this story, have succumbed to their illnesses.
