In this special sound and music experience, the ensemble Le Train Bleu performs composer John Luther Adams’ exquisite and enchanting songbirdsongs amidst a lush landscape of summer foliage at New Haven’s Marsh Botanical Garden.
As "one of the most original musical thinkers of the new century" (Alex Ross, The New Yorker), Adams is a composer whose life and work are deeply rooted in the natural world. songbirdsongs is one of Adams’ earliest works, evoking the chaotic yet harmonious world of birds, water, and wind using a small ensemble of piccolos and percussion.
The musical soundscape will be performed by Le Train Bleu, a new music ensemble led by flutist Ransom Wilson. The ensemble’s performance of songbirdsongs has been called “gorgeous... the music would vibrate and glitter around you, with the bewildering but satisfying precision of a dream”(The New York Times).
