On the 3rd May 2013, we met Marc Asnin at a café next to the historical museum “Karvasla”, where his long-term project „Uncle Charlie“ is presented as part of the “Kolga Fotofestival”.
We chatted about georgian politics, his impression for contact lenses with internet and the future of photojournalism.
But mainly we concentrated on his projects “Uncle Charlie” and “Skinheads” and he gave us an insight view of his work.
Concluding we can say: “If you don’t have work ethics, you’re fucked!”
Mark Asnin is a jewish american photographer based in New York.
Starting as a college photography assignment in 1981, it took him over 30 years to finish his project “Uncle Charlie”, his godfather. The project was now published 2012 in a book.
In comparison to “Uncle Charlie” it took Marc only 2 ½ years to create his work “Skinheads” where he attends young skinheads in a rising new subculture.
In the following video we summed up his most important quotation about his work.
