On the 4th May 2013, i met Louie Palu at the Historical Museum »Karvasala« in Tbilisi, Georgia. He is participating at the KOLGA PHOTO FESTIVAL as a teacher and is exhibiting his long term Project »The Fighting Season« at the »Underground Gallery«.
On the third day of his workshop »Long Term Projects« i spend some time with him and his students, talking about his way of teaching and his experience in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Louie Palu is a 44 year old documentary photographer born in Toronto, Canada and based in the in Washington DC, USA.
He became first known for his iconic 12 year project »Cage Call« about the living and working conditions of miners in Canada. From 2006 to 2010 he worked on a story about the front line battles in the region of Kandahar, Afghanistan. The last years he focused on the devastating Mexican drug war called »Mira Mexico«. Related to that he published a Newspaper about it in 2013.
