This is probably the most challenging but satisfying project I have worked on to date. I used Syflex for all the cloth simulation, and also used it as a modelling tool for many of the cloth objects. It really helped with getting some of the finer detail and folds that are difficult to achieve with standard modelling techniques.
To achieve the right feeling of the robe simulation. It was necessary to separate the cloth object into 7 sections. This did mean longer simulations for each shot. But it did enable me to isolate problem areas and it gave the flexibility to direct the motion of each individual section.
I must also credit Claire Michaud, Quentin Vien & Guillame Cassuto for the amazing shaders and lighting they created for the clothing.
Both character simulation rigs setup and all shots simulated in about 4 weeks.
