The October 2011 ART && CODE conference at Carnegie Mellon (artandcode.com/3d) featured a weeklong “festival as laboratory” hackathon dedicated to the exploration of new cultural applications of 3D sensing and visualization technologies. During this period, a group of 15 hackers, artists and researchers huddled in CMU’s STUDIO for Creative Inquiry to create new Kinect-based artworks and experiments.
Rachel Binx works as a designer/developer at Stamen, where she applies her expertise to problems in computational information visualization. Here, Binx shows a Kinect-based gestural interaction for 3D data browsing, which she developed in the Art && Code hackathon.
