Joellen Killion presented to 2007 Instructional Coaching Conference Keynote titled, "Take A Stand."
Killion is the National Staff Development Council's director of special projects. Her writings for NSDC publications include two columns for the Journal of Staff Development: The Code, which poses a variety of ethical challenges for staff developers, and Skill Shop, which offers practical strategies for implementing staff development visions. Killion's special project work ranges from the identification of results-based staff development programs across the country to the implementation of the NSDC standards in e-learning environments.
Coaches demonstrate what they stand for in each action, word, and thought. When they are clear about what they stand for and what they believe, they are better able to understand their practice and adhere to their professional code of ethics. In this keynote, Killion will describe some of the fundamental beliefs essential to coaches' work, how those beliefs are developed and refi ned, and how they influence what a coach does each day.
