SEND + RECEIVE V17, OCTOBER 1 - 4, 2015
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
On October 4, German musician/percussionist Limpe Fuchs closed the 17th edition of send + receive festival with a very special solo performance. With a career spanning over forty years, this marked her second time ever performing in Canada.
Since the mid-1960's, Fuchs has developed a unique array of percussion instruments and a distinct otherworldly approach to composition based on open form intuitive improvisations. Her approach is organic, emotional and deeply connected to her environment.
Beginning her musical life with classical training, she quickly broke away into non-formalism, expanding her approach to performance and to the instruments with which she performed on. In her group Anima-Sound, she designed and built a series of unique percussion instruments that she uses to this day and that travelled with her from Bavaria for the performance.
There is a distinct airiness to Fuchs's work that is enchanting. She is a ceaseless artist with an individual vision that is deeply inspiring, and we were honoured to have her close our 17th edition.
