Sculptural media installation commissioned by the Beall Center for Art and Technology at UC Irvine, for the exhibition 'Masculine Feminine.’ ‘Sleeper’ plays on the endless cycle of information that fuels our current political state of affairs. The electronics-driven sculptural fountain is constructed from translucent castings of the artist's own body, pieced together in the manner of an Exquisite Corpse. Sleeper hangs upside down, eyes closed, while receiving and recycling campaign rhetoric. Custom-built technology transforms the digital signals into sound and light via computerized LEDs. The resulting babble-based system animates and illuminates the male form in a perpetual loop of self-affirmation.
Cast polycarbonates, LEDs, mixed electronics, computer, aluminum, steel, water pump. Dimensions: 10.5’ x 10.5’ x 4’.
