During May of 2011, Copernicus' and Kepler's celestial clockwork showed us the innermost four planets rising in the pre-dawn sky. This time-lapse sequence shows, at 250x natural rate, the progress of those planets' (and stars') left ascension. The photographs were taken from McMahons Point on Sydney Harbour, opposite Sydney Observatory; in the foreground Milsons Point and Luna Park. More details, including a Power-Point presentation of the equipment and technique as well as the astronomical context, are available from my blog: http://rossmitchell.net.au/blog/2011/05/08/four-planets-in-the-eastern-sky/
The planets visible are, in order of appearance: Earth (in the foreground), Jupiter, Mercury, Venus and Mars.
