Anna Nowicka, dance maker, a graduate of the Psychology Department of the Warsaw University, Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, and MA Choreography at the Ernst-Busch/HZT in Berlin. In recent years, based on her long term interest in the work on dreams, imagination and physical actions, she started developing a methodology to be applied to an artistic creation. Her focus lies on questions of imagination and creativity, and potential of an image to transform body and to bring it into the state of constant becoming. Her works do not follow a certain esthetics, but rather share an interest to challenge the gaze, and lead it towards the unseen and unknown. Anna’s group and solo pieces were presented in numerous venues in Poland and abroad, e.g. Plesni Teater, Spanski Borci, Ljubljana; Sophiensaele, HAU, Berlin; theater im ballsaal, Bonn; NRW, Duesseldorf; Arts Station Foundation, Poznan; Teatr Dramatyczny, Instytut Teatralny, Warsaw. She frequently teaches professional contemporary technique classes, and gives imagery/creativity workshops. In 2011 Anna’s research has been recognized, and she was rewarded a DAAD Prize, followed by the choreographic scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
