Weekend Challenge: the five-second Valentine's Day

Amy Horton
February 10, 2017 by Amy Horton Staff

Last year, we asked you to create a five-second film about lunch. With Valentine’s Day approaching, we thought it’d be the perfect time to challenge you to create another five-second video — this time about dating, love, or anything in between.

For a better idea on how this might work, take a look at our example video:

Maybe you already have a romantic night planned for February 14th. Spread the love by condensing all of your overwhelming feelings into five seconds! If someone has recently smashed the rose-colored lenses you were looking at them through, we want to hear your sad (but brief) story.

Or, if you don’t have time to get too deep with this five-second format, silly sketches about your dating mishaps and adventures are always welcome!

Sincerely,
Your secret admirer
XOXO

The rules:

  • Five seconds in length, please (with allowances for a 2-second intro and 1-second outro, making for 8 seconds in total, if you desire).
  • If you add music, make sure you use a song you or a buddy created, or that you have the rights to.
  • Only videos made specifically for this Challenge will be considered.
  • Anything goes for the title, but add this at the end of your video’s description: “Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge

Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. (EST). Just follow the screenshots below:

The prizes:

  • The winner will receive a badge and a free Vimeo Plus membership for one year! If you’re already a Plus member, you’ll get another year tacked on. If you have Vimeo PRO, we’ll give you six months of PRO added to the end of your current membership.
  • The runner-up will receive a free Vimeo Plus membership for six months. Current Plus members will get six months added on, and PRO members will earn three additional months of PRO.

All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the group, so don’t worry if your video doesn’t show up at first; we’ll get to it!

Our winner this week was Valentine Reality by Darryl Ahye.

Our runner-up is The 5 Stages of Getting Dumped by Simon Gilberg.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to make a five-second video. There were so many great entries in this Weekend Challenge. Can’t wait for the next one!

Of course! As long as you follow all of the guidelines, there's no harm in sharing your video on social media.

Uploading ours now!! Is it alright if visuals are under the title and credits, or should we replace the file with a version that just has black behind the title/credits?

Amy Horton Staff

I just took a look at the version that you entered and it follows all the guidelines. Thanks for submitting!

Mean Bean Productions

Awesome, thanks! We went ahead and uploaded the latter just in case. Glad it worked out!

Hey guys! :-) I just wanted to tell you and Amy, that I uploaded a video too - not sure, if I did everything right as it's not in the challenge group. But I think, maybe they will all be there at one time, so I try not to panic. It's just: I don't want my little baby to get lost. :-) Thanks for this challenge - I love joining them and gonna join a lot more this year!

Amy Horton Staff

Hi Yvonne! Don't worry - all videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the group, so it will be accepted eventually, as long as it follows all the guidelines. Looking forward to seeing your video!

Dina Lydia

I don't see mine yet -- submitted on Sunday the 12th. Maybe y'all are not finished uploading them? I believe I followed the guidelines.

Amy Horton Staff

Hi Dina! Don't worry - your video was added to the Weekend Challenge Group.

Dito Prado

Hey! Do you know if there will be a challenge this weekend (2/17)?

Amy Horton Staff

Hey Dito! There isn't one this weekend, but there will be one on Friday, February 24th.

Dito Prado

Ah, sweet. Thanks for letting me know. I look forward to these!

Yvonne Laros

Congrats to the winners - I really enjoyed your videos! And now: can't wait for February 24th to arrive! :-)
