John Peter Thiel

This is a great idea, but I wish it was on for a weekend in the Spring or Summer. Right now, if you were in my city--Astoria, Queens, New York City--I would show you how to check in at the LaGuardia Airport for a flight to Florida.

John Peter Thiel

Or I could use stills and video pieces I've taken throughout the year.

OK, I'll take this one on.

Mariangelica Forero

Sounds awesome!! Short and super hard! So many great things to show!
haha- Can't wait to hit the streets!

Chris Engdahl Plus

Does it have to be shot this weekend? I always bring my camera around and have so much footage I've taken of the city. Is it all based on when it was shot or does my editing come in consideration as well?

Chris Engdahl Plus

Got it, doesn't say I can't use older footage so I'll give this one a go! Thanks

Robert Malcolm

Our village has 67 houses and I don't know anything about the nearest city. I don't really like London either, so this isn't something for me and after all that I have to look at some old footage of Fred Zinnemann this weekend. Good luck to those who enter.

John Peter Thiel

I live in New York City, and I'm from here originally--an actual native of several generations. I can take Manhattan in small doses, but people who 'have to' live in Manhattan are intolerable. They're usually from the middle of nowhere, but they live here a couple of years and suddenly they're 'from' New York. Then they get really snobby about living in Manhattan while also afraid to leave that tiny island, complete with a vocabulary of insults for anyone who doesn't live in Manhattan.

Well, to me, Astoria, Queens is one of the best if not the best of New York City. And I imagine you can make where you live outshine London.

My ancestry is part from London and Yorkshire by the way.

Robert Malcolm

I also missed the US residents only part of the rules, so as a resident of Cheshire .......

Valentina Calà

Awesome contest! I see unfortunately that the Airbnb contest is open just to US citizen. Anyhow, for the Vimeo contest, can people from outside US participate? Thanks!

Cameron Christopher Staff

That's right, Valentina — the AirbnbShorts is open to only US residents, but you may still participate in the Vimeo Challenge portion!

Companhia de Canoagem (CdC) Plus

Absurd! It´s open to US residents only! How do they expect to get videos from different people/cities by limiting the access this way?? AirBnB founders say they are proud to have customers and places all over the world (check their presentation ) and now comes with this xenophobic move???? AirBnB has a website in 25+ (?) languages, including brazilian portuguese, and open contests to US citizens ONLY??? There must be something wrong with your policies, ehhh??? Hey Vimeans from´re OUT!!! Germans??? OUT... Italians??? OUT.... Hope Vimeo will not endorse this contest...

Joancarles Ambrojo

Well, it's their loss! What is curious is that Vimeo didn't say nothing about this important restriction in their rules section.

Companhia de Canoagem (CdC) Plus

Dear Cameron, unfortunatelly your reply disapeared from here....
You know I love and participate of many Vimeo Challenges, but this one in particular I´ll have to pass, sorry. I understand there must be legal questions on international contests, but if they are able to solve the problems of selling a night stay in a place in Australia to a person that live in Japan, the contests should get the same care... End of rant, as they say in UK!! :) BTW, UK is OUT too.... :)

Airbnb PRO

Hi folks! We are so sorry to leave out our non-US community with #AirbnbShorts. We are seeking to capture the passion in the USA around Sundance with a regional challenge. We're looking forward to running localized competitions around the world that will feel personal and relevant to you. Thanks so much for supporting us, and stay tuned!

Mariangelica Forero

:) That's awesome that you posted here! Thanks for the contest regardless of who it's for. I think it's a great idea! Can't wait for the Canada version! :) Keep being awesome!!

Brannigan Carter

I have a slight problem; I don't have Instagram; they don't make it for a Windows Phone 7 (haven't upgraded just yet). So how do I enter the AirBnB contest? Or am I just SOL on that one? lol

Dog Media Plus

I don't even use a smartphone - I'm no Luddite, I just don't see the need for one. :)

Justin Waldman

Bit narrow isn't it, only for US residents - excluding 95% of the world . . . . . :(

Ken Wolff PRO

I'm might not be from the US, but I will proudly represent my island ARUBA woop woop :)

Agreed. This contest does exclude the rest of the world.

To the extent a video includes the likeness of a person other than the participant, the participant must provide proper permissions in a form acceptable to Airbnb."

Brandon Giles

Limiting to US residents sort of kills the spirit of international travel.

Tullia La Rosa

Great Challenge but very bad bad weather right now..

Paul Tarasoff Plus

This is fun! So many cool places in the world, will be interesting to see what will turn up in this contest :) Even if your not a U.S. Citezen you can still enter the Vimeo part of the contest.

Red R

are you allowed to use any kind of music?

Nandu Chitnis Plus

Only US Citizens eligible for prizes!!

So I suggest accept entries from other Countries also, exception that they will NOT be considered for any prizes.

Sergio Rodriguez Plus

Challenge accepted! Borrowed my company's Canon 5D and had a field day in San Francisco. My original idea went out the window and i'm going with the flow of it. I can't wait to post up my submission. Stay tuned.

Daniel Livas

No!!!!!!!!! I Will try my best. Can we do our home town instead?

Just stay out ..for locals only :p Maybe next time is Japan ..

Abdullah Ismail

I'm pretty sure I've read a term in AirBnB's rules stating that the videos made can only be for the AirBnb competition and used during the duration of the competition. Can anybody confirm or deny my probably wrong statement? I have six short videos for Columbus, Ohio penned down I just have to film them.

Andrew Syiek Plus

It's always a good idea to take the requisite time to read, or at a minimum, scan contest legalese. In many cases, you forfeit practically all of your ownership rights. However on a positive note, if you win a contest, you'll have a nice prize or two, a great credential, bragging rights and an ego boost! Overwhelmingly comprehensive terms are often the norm, not the exception in contest rules. Caveat emptor!

Sophie Heppell

Oh noo :( I spent ages trying to get it so it'd go on Instagram, finally nailed it and then just seen that you have to be in the US to enter :(

I have a question! Can i do the video weekend challenge on 16 seconds with credits?
I'm from Padua city, Italy

Sonia Di Cara

Hi I upload a video 15 hours ago, I want to partecipate to the challenge but my video don't appear... did I do somenthing wrong? please help me I work so hard to do this video! thanks =)

Kai Jones-Biscette

Hi Sonia - I am not affiliated with Vimeo, but participated in my first challenge a couple of weeks ago. I was both nervous and concerned as well regarding the delay. I learned that it sometimes can take a LONG time for your video to appear though. It took mine more than 24 hours. I wouldn't worry about it but would encourage you to follow-up if you still don't see it after the deadline passes. All the best :)

Companhia de Canoagem (CdC) Plus

They just check to see if your video is OK with the rules of the current challenge. It takes a bit (many entrees), but it will show up, don´t worry.

Sonia Di Cara

Okay thank you very much for to have answered me! =)

Hayley Canonge Plus

Dang it!

I am a US citizen but I reside in one of the most beautiful cities in the world; Dubai!

So sad, I had so many things to show you in just fifteen seconds!

Efe Conker Plus

great idea but its a shame its local. why it does not internationally ?

Marcos Tavares

Hello Cameron Christopher.. where can I see who the winners of this challenge are?

Kai Jones-Biscette

I'm not sure what happened, but my video never showed up amongst the submitted videos despite the fact I'd submitted it on time. Just thought I'd share the link here in the event anyone is interested in seeing '15 seconds in Oakland'. Thanks.

Shiply PRO
