Hello there, minuscule marvels,
Do you all know the fable about the blind men and the elephant? While the specific details and moral lessons change from version to version, the gist of the story is this:
Each man is making a valid observation, but they have limited perspectives — one must come at something from all angles to get the full measure of it. This weekend’s Challenge is about looking at the bits and pieces of something to understand more about its entirety. Armed with patience, a detective’s eye, and a macro lens (or macro-sensibility), try to find something with layers of detail to expose.
Get experimental with your macro shots to use them to their fullest potential. What are the details that we might have missed otherwise? How can you reveal new ways of seeing something we may all be familiar with? For a bit of minuscule inspiration, check out Clemens Wirth’s exploration of the tiny world:
We’ve got some tips on using macro lenses in a previous lesson, but you don’t have to have a macro lens to participate. You could try a drop of water on your phone, or just focus on individual parts of a whole — more of a mental macro, you know?
+ Find something to focus in on, macro style.
+ Keep your video under 1 minute in length.
+ Add this at the end of your video’s description: “Created for the Weekend Challenge: vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge”
+ Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by *****Tuesday, June 17th, 2014***** at 11:59 PM (EST).
