Weekend Challenge: Two Truths and a Lie

Hey there, you fabulous fabricators,

When someone new starts at Vimeo, we make them stand up and lie right to our faces. Well, they also tell us true stories, but we're tasked with figuring out which of their interesting tidbits is a fib. This is happening to the new folks from Cameo as I type:

Your Challenge this weekend is to tell us Two Truths and a Lie, and make us guess which of your tales is the tall one. How you do this is up to you, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

Try showing us what you're talking about, as if you were narrating your own life. I'm a big fan of this style, lately championed by Bianca Giaever in videos like "Crush" and "the Scared is scared". Also take a look at the winning video from our "Illustrate a Story" Challenge, by Ryan Polly.

Use an interview format to make things seem professional — because professionals don't lie, right!? This one requires a little more acting ability to mask your fictitious facts. Take a look back at our Shooting an Interview lesson for some tips and tricks.

If you're really into making things, try using the actual words or 2d visuals in your truths and lie to create something like this video by frohlocke, set to audio provided by Ira Glass.

+ Create a video with three stories or facts — two of them should be true, one should be a lie. Don't tell us which is which!
+ Keep your video under 3 minutes.
+ If you add music, make sure you use a song you or a buddy created, or something from the Vimeo Music Store! If you do choose to use a Music Store song, please throw a link in the description.
+ Anything goes for your video's title, but add this at the end of your video's description: "Created for the Weekend Challenge:"
+ Upload and post your video to the Weekend Challenge Group by *****Tuesday, March 25th, 2014***** at 11:59 PM (EST). Only videos made specifically for this Challenge will be considered.

+ The winner will receive a badge on their video, and free Vimeo Plus account for one year! If you're already a Plus member, you'll get another year.
+ The runner-up will receive an extra 3GB of upload space!

All videos must be approved by the Vimeo Staff before appearing in the Group, so don't worry if your video doesn't show up at first; we'll get to it!

Could I do one story containing two truths and a lie?

Lilian Ciola

Nice you gave us a lot of alternatives, it's a great challenge. I think I will lay down and tell two truths.

Fede Gianotti Plus

Same question as Daxcat. Can we do just one story containing all three elements (two truths and one lie)?

Alan Alsup

I was wondering the same thing?

This is too difficult for me at the moment.. I'm studying previous lessons on storytelling and will try to catch up later..(edit: creativity is missing..)

Seems to me the only way to do this project without is totally sucking is to take the challenge like a college application essay question or sheet of jazz music--as just a suggestion, a basic template on which to impose your own ideas.

They're all like that really.

This is an interesting challenge....let me think

I wish we could learn about the next weekend's challenge by end of day, Wednesdays.
