Weekend Project: Dream Description

Andrea Allen
March 12, 2010 by Andrea Allen Staff

Hey Everyone,

As we're a part of one of the most creative communities on the Internet, it's great to think about where all this creativity originates. One place we can look for inspiration is our dreams.

Long-time user, ErickC started the Dream Project just over three years ago. I dug through the Vimeo Project Forum vaults and found a link to his original video!

To participate, go to sleep with your camera by your bedside. Right when you wake up, grab your camera and record yourself recounting your dream in as much detail as possible. When you're finished, upload it and submit your video to the Weekend Project Group. The goal is to capture that moment after waking when you are in between dreaming and starting your day. I find it easiest to remember and talk about dreams if I don't sit or stand up. That's why it's important to keep that camera close! Deadline for submissions is 11:59 EST on Tuesday, March 16.

The Community Staff will watch the entries and decide on a winner. First prize is a Plus account (for Basic users) or 25,000 HD Embeds (for Plus members). The runner-up gets an extra 1 GB of upload capacity (for Basic users) or 10,000 HD Embeds (for Plus members). Make sure you only submit videos made specifically for this weekend project!

See you in your dreams!

The winner is Lulù rotefabrik film with her incredible submission, dream's dreams. The runner up is Jeff Hanel who remembered so much of his dream(s)! Here is his video. Take a few minutes and check 'em out! Congratulations to everyone who participated!

cool! I don't dream much, so I hope I have a good one tonight.

Did you guys ever decide a winner on the last weekend project(first memories)?

Bryan Gosline

Was there ever a winner for the last Weekend Project?

Eliot S.

I was wondering... English isn't my native language. So if I do this thing, should I try to explain my dream in English, or should I go for my native language (which is Dutch by the way)?

Jan Egbers

Ok, I'm going to say this in Dutch:

Dat hangt er vanaf welk publiek je wilt bereiken denk ik. Als het beter gaat in het Nederlands kun je het het best in het nederlands doen. Dan maak je ondertitels zodat de 'jury' van het weekend project het alsnog kan beoordelen.

Eliot S.

Ok, thanks.
Maybe not the right place to ask but are there any subtitling programs you would advice?

Julia Quinn Staff

Hmmm, I am pretty sure you can do it in Windows Movie Maker just by adding text at the bottom of the screen.

Jan Egbers

Or in iMovie if you're using mac.

so what´s vimeos policy on explicit content? :p

Bernardo Lopes

yes, who was the last weekend project winner?

Love the idea!

Bernardo Lopes

OK, thanks! Giancarlo deserved it, I enjoyed it a lot. Hope you guys continue with these weekend projects.

I've read (and tested and confirmed) that eating cheese right before you go to bed makes for some pretty vivid dreams.

Just a little food for thought. Pun intended.

Caitlin Lemaire

Also, if you're trying to quit smoking and you wear the patch to bed you have the craziest dreams ever.

And this is really awesome that this kind of thing exists, I just finished up my senior thesis on dreaming (motion style). Feel free to check it out.

Enrique Pizarro

¡Good idea!
Hahaha.. I'm imagining this weekend much vimeo users of sleeping in nice clothes and with makeup to look good in the video.

Last night I dreamed I was recording myself in bed for Vimeo's project recounting this dream I just had before with Tarantino's brother (?) in Cartagena's film festival...

Enrique Pizarro

JeJeJe.. ¡Cool dream!
I was at the Cartagena Film Festival (FICCI 2010) few days ago. ¡Was very nice!

David Graves Plus

Great idea, although I don't think I'm particularly attractive when I wake up!

Robert Baxter

I'm not particularly attractive when I'm at my best, so you can only imagine what I look like first thing in the morning.

Nice! Will upload one tomorrow morning!

what's the best way to find out about each project?

Andrea Allen Staff

Oh, Sorry!
I didn't email the Group members. I'll remember to do that next time.
