Here's a time lapse painting I recently finished of the Royal Opera House in London. The painting took over a week to complete although in general I kept the camera still. This is my first night time painting and was tricky because I viewed the Opera House during the day, plus it wasn't raining. I like the result however. Although it's a cold, wet winters night, the painting has a cozy warmth.
London's Paddington train station has width. I'm not saying it isn't lofty but when you're inside you cannot help but be impressed with just how big the hall is. In my first painting I was more interested in the roof but in this painting, I wanted to capture the space.
I had the canvas especially made at 140cm x 70cm to give a super wide landscape format. I realise Paddington Station is a bit more gloomy than how I've portrayed it, but I do like filling these buildings with light. On the platform, a couple are kissing goodbye and a guard is whistling.
I sat on the platform for a long time to get an empty view. Eventually it came and the reflections on the roof filled the tiled floor. I'm pleased with this painting. I think it has a buzz.
This is the result of a commission from a very supportive couple in Malta based on images they sent me. Not having been to Malta, never mind Mgarr harbor, it was tricky to create a sence or atmosphere of the place. However, Joe and Mich are extreamly easy to deal with and we quickly got to a point where I felt I could paint something we would all be proud of. The sun rose in front of the harbor so we went for an earlyish morning scene, where the greens of the trees were just taking over from the orange/yellow of the sun. I am personally very happy with the result.
This painting was conceived during an outing in October -- in fact during a break from my London exhibition. It was so sunny outside I hoped on a bus to the Square Mile and had a browse around. It's not the most vibrant part of London but there are certainly some interesting vistas and impressive buildings, especially in the strong light of a bright autumn day. I hope you enjoy.
The music is from the live street performance which I really enjoyed. This type of impromptu energy is fantastic. youtu.be/1I2AJQRJa-E
