I became curious in recent years how people on the Colorado Trail, a 500 mile backpacking and mountain biking trail extending from Denver to Durango, were experiencing the trail. What did they seek from the experience? What were they discovering about themselves? How was the trail changing their lives? In 2015 and 2016 I interviewed over 150 of these travelers. The result was a new book, Voices of The Colorado Trail. This short video is meant to provide an overview of this project by introducing you to some of the people traveling the trail. Short audio clips from the interviews give you a flavor of their stories. Complete transcripts of the interviews, along with longer taped audio clips, are available on my RawahRanger web page (rawahranger.com).
Although mountain lions and bears loom large in Colorado Trail hiker's imaginations, it is the weather that plays a profound role in their lives. Nearly everyone can tell you a harrowing weather story!
