This is a test to compare my two favorite diffusion filters. The two filters in this test are a Black Promist 1/4, and SoftFX 1/2. These are extremely subtle filters, mostly intended to smooth skin tones without compromising the overall sharpness of the image.
I've included several types of shots in this test, beginning with a darker, low key closeup, in which both filters are hardly noticeable. Once a specular highlight (such as the lamp) is introduced into frame, the effects of the two filters become very pronounced. It is also important to note the differences between the filters when used with longer lenses as opposed to wides.
This test was shot using the Canon C-100 and the Canon 24-108mm f/4L lens. For the closeups, I set the lens to a focal length of 80mm. For the wider shots, I set the lens to about 35mm. This entire test was exposed at an f/5.6 at 850 ISO.
