JDC is currently decommissioning, decontaminating and demolishing the former Salem Harbor Power Plant.
The formerly #6 fuel oil fed Unit 4 Boiler went into commercial operation in 1972. The footprint was 85 ft. x 112 ft. and was 175 ft. tall.
JDC’s engineered demolition plan consisted of preliminary removal of cross members and non weight bearing columns using precision torch cuts. The first two rows were shackled and cabled with chokers while the rear row was cut at the base to hinge the structure. A Komatsu PC 800 and a Komatsu PC 650 executed simultaneous pulling duties of the front column plugs.
A fire hose umbrella pattern spray mounted to a 135 ft man-lift was in position to the right rear and a secondary spray at 60 ft in the right front ahead of a prevailing westerly wind.
The structure was safely and cleanly brought to the ground at 10: 23 AM on Saturday, February 13th, 2016.
