1. When we first heard about Sigrid Ekran, it was through rumours about a young promising sled dog musher, learning the trade in the Alaskan outback. She was living off what nature could give, together with her full team of dogs, and without electricity or running water in a wooden cabin.

Sigrid has given up most of what people in general would consider a normal life. Also, being a woman makes her an outsider even among mushers. But what really sets her apart is her dedication to her dogs. And she is by far, one of the most inspiring persons we have ever had the chance to meet.

Last year, a couple of months before her attempt to become the sled dog world champion for the second time, we got the opportunity to create a short film with Sigrid. So we went to her home in Hedmark Fylke in Norway to capture her dedication and make a documentary about what everyday life looks like for her, on and off the trail.

After the movie was shot, Sigrid’s hard work paid off. Once again, she won the world championships, Finnmarkslopet, after 1100 kilometers and 6 days across the Arctic tundra. Afterwards, the sled dog race expert Trond Ørslien said:

“What sets Sigrid apart from the other mushers in this year’s Finnmarks Race can be summarised into two words: Trust and humility in relation to her dogs. They trust that they can do what she asks of them, and she is humble in the way that she treats them.”
