Natural Bodyworx is a new exercise system designed by Tim Goullet, an osteopath and sports scientist. In contrast to the relatively static and artificial movements that are characteristic of the majority of modern exercise forms, the Natural Bodyworx method offers a more dynamic and functional way of improving fitness.
The movements are therapeutic for the body and not simply a way of getting fitter. The movements have been carefully researched to provide the optimum balance of flexibility and strength.
Flexibility without a corresponding degree of strength, and strength without a corresponding degree of flexibility increase the risk of injury and tend to have a negative effect on posture.
This system is inspired by movement patterns from vertebrate evolution plus both embryonic and childhood development.
Vertebrate evolution provides an insight into the functioning of the human spine - practising movement patterns from fish, reptiles and mammals is a phylogenetically appropriate method to hone and rehabilitate the human spine.
Healthy childhood movement patterns are frequently lost as we get older and spend less time sitting and moving on the floor and more time in chairs and cars.
As adults we also tend to lose our ideal proportions (e.g.. We get top or bottom heavy) and can struggle to move our own body weight against gravity.
By using movements that are intrinsically natural, the joy of human movement, which has been virtually lost in our clinical exercise culture can be re-discovered. The movement experience is enriched with techniques from the ancient traditions of yoga and martial arts to create a system of exercise which creates fluid, well balanced physiques while promoting all round fitness.
Natural Bodyworx is safe, challenging and fun to do and requires no equipment being entirely body weight based.
Natural movements create natural, well balanced physiques which are less prone to injury.
Artificial movements create physiques which are more prone to imbalance, stiffness and injury.
