1. These are the results of the workshop Negativeland, held by Distruktur, during the project In Love With Film #1. We hand processed different stocks of color negative film and some print film in ECN, ECP and E6 chemistry.

This is a video of the 16mm film projection and can only be taken as a preview. The actual film has way more details, there is more information in the dark parts and more information in the bright parts, also the color can not be taken as a reliable reference.

Workshop held by Distruktur, at filmkoop wien in January 2017.

  2. From Salt-to-Screen: Handmade Emulsion on 16mm
    May 2 & 3rd 2015
Offered by The Filmmaker's Coop (NY) & Negativland Film Lab
    Instructor: Josh Lewis

This was a two day workshop in which participants made raw 16mm film stock from scratch. The first day we mixed the silver gelatin emulsion and coated it onto 16mm acetate with foam brushes on a custom "rack" film holder. Day two, we shot and processed the film. The ASA was rated at about 2-4. We obtained a good exposure under bright sun at 24fps with the f-stop at 1.4.

    For Geeks:
The emulsion used is the simple "unwashed" active gelatin recipe offered in a number of different sources.*
No finals, surficants, or hardeners were added. The only additional step was that we did shred and wash the emulsion for about 15 minutes leading to (slightly) less peppering effect than a normal unwashed emulsion. The film was processed using D-19 developer in a lomo tank with minimal agitation and short, cold washes between chemical baths. The digital transfer was made on a Lasergraphics Transfer machine, using a "flat pass" with low contrast to retain the most possible information from the negative.

  4. L'angle du monde, Philippe Cote

    2006, Super 8, 32', couleur et n&b/color and b&w, silencieux/silent, France
