This is a simple concept which I thought would be visually pleasing without working outside my means. It was shot using only one DSLR and a telephoto lens, and was meant only as an experimental project to try my hand at film and video editing. All in all, this was a lot of fun to shoot and I hope to be able to explore this avenue further. Disclaimer: I do not own any rights to the music used. We live in an enlightened age where the majority of intelligent humans have come to accept the ramifications of how our exploding population and the ingrained consumption of fossil fuels is affecting world climate. It is vital to be cognizant of how these catastrophes are magnified as they negatively affect the animals and organisms in our ecosystem.
This is part one of video series entitled 'No Pipelines' that individually and collectively form an artistic statement to inspire a deeper mindfulness of our fragile ecosystem. Five representative "animals" have been covered in a bitumen-like substance to represent the tragedy that an oil or gas accident will have on our environment if we continue to expand the fossil fuel industry in Canada and around the world.
It's not a question of if, but only -when- an accident will happen. All man-made systems fail, and often do so in spectacularly catastrophic fashion - pipelines and tankers included.
It is crucial to understand that the tiny portion of this planet that is a liveable biosphere for our species needs protection by all means necessary. In order to sustain not only human life, but also all supporting life forms on which we intrinsically rely for the life we cherish, we need to take immediate actions.
To inspire stewardship of these natural resources, please support a massive system wide overhaul and create and encourage change at your local level. Ways to be the change include sharing these videos and asking everyone to think more compassionately about the full spectrum of life on this planet. Voting for system change in the way you spend your dollars is a direct feedback loop to those producing our consumables. Help fight against the oppressive powers that attempt to stifle and diffuse the renewable energy revolution by signing petitions, supporting protests and donating what you can to organizations that are making a difference. Together we can change the future. Believe it.
