Second graders in Mrs. Hjelmen's class were able to connect, via Skype, with a class in Zimbabwe. The African students sang songs and asked questions about life in the United States. They were quite interested in the American flag on the wall, and enjoyed hearing our students recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Likewise, our students sang the Adams School song to them, and asked about life in Africa.
One of the teachers introduced herself to Mrs. Hjelmen. We were surprised to hear that she had her young child with her, strapped to her back.
This school had no electricity. They were communicating via a battery-powered laptop computer equipped with a cellular network card.
Thanks to Maddie's grandmother, Maryjane Westra, for organizing this opportunity!
We have been learning about the importance of eating healthy foods and excercising every day. We were excited to participate in the March Madness Fitness Challenge at Adams School. We want to thank Dairyland for the delicious smoothies and Mr. Pearson for his hard work on this project (and for the smoothie deliveries!) We hope to keep the excitement going now that the weather is so nice. Let's MOVE!
