1. There is a difference between our Rock and their rock...everyone has a rock they lean on ... the world, the devil and the flesh constitute a rock. Similarly we have the Holy Spirit, Jesus and our Father in Heaven – the Rock of ages. Verse 31 goes to the heart of the issue...the rocks are not the same. Their rock is not as our Rock. I appeal to you when people call god...or the gods...or talk about god...the first thing is to establish which god

  2. Stand means to remain firm in the same place. Firm means to be secure or socially fixed in place having a solid or compact structure that resist stress or pressure not easily moved or disturbed. Steadfast. Well founded

  3. “The bud may have a bitter taste but sweet will be the flower” says the Hymn writer. A message from Bode Ososami to encourage someone tasting bitter waters...soon it will be over – and sweet will be the flower...

Sin is the cause of bitterness and there is cleansing by the Blood of Jesus.

  4. Paul wrote to the Corinthians and spoke of the shadow of what we now see as God’s way. The meat of the children is God’s word...the same irrespective of race, tribe, status or age...they also drank the same drink...the drink for the Christian in all continents, ages or situations is also the same. Be careful of new revelations/variations that appeal to certain situations and will not apply in others...
If the meat is the word of God ...what is the drink? We learn that the drink is from a spiritual Rock that follows... I learnt from the experience of the Israelites that they cried for water in Exodus 17 [6] Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

This rock was moving...a miracle..otherwise it could not have been a continued source of water all through their wanderings...the rock followed them...a shadow of Jesus Christ that is with is in all our journeys...

  5. There is unassailable safety by /in/with/on the Rock. This is different from just comfort or stability but things can go really bad and degenerate so much that faith is overwhelmed and you are close to give up. Our text is from Psalm 61 – David knew this kind of overwhelming trouble...

Psalm 61[1] Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. [2] From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. [3] For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. [4] I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings.

David cried to God even from the ends of the earth...David is said to have written this Psalm from exile-perhaps after the Absalom rebellion. The tabernacle was God’s visible abode and David missed God...more than He missed the throne, his people, his luxurious palace...what will you miss if you feel separated from God through sin...and have run into trouble...and have lost assets, position. Most will miss their position and reputation ...David missed the tabernacle...even as he cried to God for help.
