Here is a video from this Thursday's flying at Morman Lake Overlook with my Buzz Evo. It was a beautiful afternoon with a light WSW breeze… perfect conditions for the lightweight gliders.
I have a new dslr camera which can shoot at 3x slow-mo. I used my old helmet cam. The video turned out OK for a first attempt. I like that i can shoot less wide angle, have manual control of exposure and there is no "GOldfish bowl Pro" effect. I do need to make a targeting/sight aid so I can level up the horizon and track my glider.
It was a sunny, breezy, and cool autumn afternoon at the lower NW bench of Merriam Crater (located NE of Flagstaff, AZ.) I had a fun flying session with my Le Fish aerobatic slope glider. I tried to fly slow and low (VTPR-style)... working the lift zone between the relatively low angle slope and nearly level landing area... often floating backwards in the in the stronger gusts.
Adding to the "fun" was the occasional tumbleweed rolling up the slope through the flying area.
It was magical up on Elden this past Tuesday (voting day). I got up to the big bowl on Elden around one in the afternoon. It was cool (53°) with a clear blue sky and a solid 22+ mph breeze blowing from the NE right up the bowl. We don't get many days like this; but when it happens, it is slope heaven. I had a blast flying aerobatics with my LEG Le Fish.
This is a bare bones video... one cut from my helmet cam. I dropped in my fist video clip and added the Donnie Darko tune. It seemed to capture my mood that day... so I just added a couple fades and a credit line... and I was done.
This is a video from last Saturday's slope soaring session at the NE bowl of Mt. Elden. It was sunny and cool (62°) at the 9000' flying site. The wind was blowing up the bowl in the teens... producing some very nice lift. It was perfect conditions for relaxed aerobatics with my LEG Le Fish.
We don't get to fly this spot very often since our typical wind is from the SW. The (crappy) road is closed during our snow season. However during late Spring and early Fall, right after front moves through and we get a day of nice NE wind... everything comes together for some great flying.
I forgot my helmet cam this day. I rigged a "Tranny" cam using the camera mount section of my tripod strapped to my Transmitter. It was heavy to hold but I was able to sight over the video cam and follow my glider while I flew.
Here is a video of Le Fish flying at Mormon Lake (near Flagstaff, AZ). It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of puffy clouds cruising by. Wind was from the SW at 15-20+ mph.
I usually fly at the Overlook parking area; however it is currently being rebuilt. For the last couple weeks I have been scouting out new places along the cliff face. This spot became my favorite. It is located about 250 yards north of the Overlook. This spot has a nice bowl that works really well in SSW-SW winds.
