  2. It was afternoon - cloudy and rainy. So on a lark we decided to rent a Jeep and take the 2 hr drive from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen ... or more specifically to Puerto Adventura, an upscale gated community just south of del Carmen towards Tulum. We ran into our new friends from New York, Jack and Donna who accompanied us.

Our dear friends from Kingwood, TX have a beautiful Villa there, and they graciously opened their doors to us - despite not being there. As we arrived, we were greeted by Danny and later Felipe, who had some delightful guacamole, pico de gallo, tortilla chips, cookies and cervesas mas frio. How does it get better than that?

The sun would have helped.....:P But who's complaining? Not me, amigos.

  3. This is a video of a trip to Chichen Itza, the largest of the great Mayan ruins.

This video was shot in 720p resolution on a new Kodak playSport video camera.

This is a really fun camera, the size of a cell phone, shoots up to 1080p resolution, and is waterproof to 10 feet. All this for $150 bucks! I'm impressed.

  4. This is a 5 minute video shot with a Kodak PlaySport camera at 720p resolution. The locale is our home on Lake Conroe TX, and was shot on May Day 2010. The clip demonstrates the underwater capabilities of the PlaySport, and shows some interesting transitions between water and air phases on the fly. The camera is the size of a small cellphone, costs around $150, and is really fun and easy to use.

Two criticisms of the PlaySport are that the viewfinder is not easily readable in bright sunlight and that the microphone is susceptible to wind noise occlusion. But don't all the small handhelds have these problems? Manageable.

The video features our Grandchildren, Brendan and Sarah, ages 6 and 4 respectively, whose fearless swimming activities are set to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" made famous by Rocky Balboa in the 1970s. These two li'l Champions have both been "tigers" at swimming since age three.

The big crane in the background is on location to install a new bulkhead where we once had a wonderful beach. Hurricane Ike and a Christmas Eve Storm (see video) eroded the beach to the extent that installing a bulkhead became mandatory. Makes me sad, but in the immortal words of Robbie Burns "... the best laid plans of mice and men ..." often go astray.

Will post up some before and after footage of the bulkhead project soon.

This one is just plain fun
