How are Haitians coping one year after the earthquake? In a recent trip to Haiti, two ASU professors discovered how art plays an important role in their lives thanks to a seed grant from the Institute for Humanities Research. The research is directed by ASU Assistant Professor, Thomas Puleo, in the School of Politics and Global Studies and Assistant Professor, Mark Cruse, in the School of International Letters and Cultures. Baked goods, innovation and empowerment are the ingredients for the recipe Sweet Inde. Kristen Bean, a School of Social Work doctoral candidate, won an Innovation Challenge grant from Arizona State University. Bean used the grant funds to start Sweet Inde, a bakery and nonprofit corporation that empowers people with disabilities to gain competitive community employment. In this research video she discusses Sweet Inde, the grant and her passion for working with people with disabilities.

Death Valley Cycle 2 is a sound/video installation created by artist, Richard Lerman, a professor in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. With the aid of his graduate students, William Tyler, Assistant Professor of Neurobiology and Bioimaging in the School of Life Sciences, researches how Ultrasonic Neuromodulation provides a novel approach to delivering noninvasive therapies for a host of neurological, psychiatric, and/or developmental disorders.
