Sustainable Martha's Vineyard

In this episode, we speak with Ken Greene, Managing and Creative Director of Hudson Valley Seed Library and Noli Taylor, Director of Island Grown Schools, about the importance of seeds and what it means to start a "seed library."

The Martha's Vineyard Community Seed Library is a collaborative project of the West Tisbury Free Public Library, Island Grown Schools, and the FARM Institute. It's aim is to bring the knowledge of how to save seeds back to our island community while creating a central space where seeds can be freely shared. Over time, the goal is to create a locally adapted collection of seeds, and a community of growers engaged in the ancient practice of seed saving. By saving and sharing seeds, we can increase local food security, strengthen our sense of self reliance, and safeguard genetic diversity while honoring the age old tradition of passing down seeds from generation to generation.

+ More

"Sustainable Vineyard" is an independent short documentary series that highlights islanders working towards creating a sustainable community and environment. The series looks for interesting stories that bring the metabolic relationships of our ecosystem to life and that help foster a human nature connection. Being on an island creates a sense of defined geographic community, but the initiatives we capture here will also apply and appeal to a broader audience.
