Extending beyond the boundaries of traditional storytelling and style, this eclectic and engrossing range of shorts demonstrate how visual narrative can be used powerfully to create dramatic effect. From an international selection of filmmakers with adventurous narrative structures and distinctive styles in motion.
An eclectic selection of short films, animations and motion graphics presenting evocative visions of future cities and our urban destinies. Juxtaposing utopian fantasies with nightmarish dystopias, future cities highlights the possible metropolis of tomorrow with sci-fi architectural visions, near future worlds and even touches the warped frontier of space.
40 graduates converged at the Red Gallery in Shoreditch to take part in the fourth onedotzero_cascade from 24-28 October 2011.
The high calibre graduates from 16 different creative disciplines from 29 universities, split into five mutli-disciplinary teams.
Their brief was to create a concept that responded to 'Delve_living in the layered city' set by onedotzero's creative director Shane Walter. The city is extraordinary and the challenge was to read the city through its varying layers - physical and virtual.
The teams were joined by professional practitioners including Kevin Palmer and Matt Wade from Kin, Andrew Armes and Darius Norell from The Spring Project, Sam Payne from Mother, Alastair Dant, Jonathan Richards, Alex Graul and Mariana Santos from The Guardian Digital Team, Derek Yates from Camberwell College of Arts and actors Keith Wallis and Tom Zieball who led workshops to encourage collaborative ways of working, develop presentation skills and support the groups in developing their ideas.
The week ended with each group delivering presenting their final concept to an X-Factor style industry panel including Kin, AllofUs, YCC, LBi, Ogilvy, D&AD and onedotzero.
Each team documented their thoughts, inspirations, ideas and progress on blogs, which you can check out here onedotzerocascade.com
