I was the Lead Designer (working for ESI Design) on this permanent media architecture for a high end shopping mall on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. 10 custom LED displays integrated into the ceiling, 16k video content and real-time content creation tools (via a custom designed CMS).
LED with vinyl diffusion. 15’ x 25’. Video & custom software.
Canvas is a digital artwork that utilizes custom software to create abstract color compositions derived from the motion of the city. It was my pleasure to be the Creative Lead and Art Director on this project, for ESI Design.
Inspired by the constant activity of the vibrant River North neighborhood of Chicago, the artwork captures moments of generic daily motion and uses them to create abstract moments of color. Custom software analyzes source footage for paths of motion contained within the video data, and uses them as conceptual brush strokes to ‘paint’ the video into a different visual composition.
The installation pulls from a library of video footage that was shot within River North, reflecting the different kinds of motion that pulse through the neighborhood — the flow of people, traffic, and trains, the river that borders it, and the sky above it, interspersed with occasional moments of green space.
Intentionally referencing the tradition of abstract painting, the software enables images to dissolve into softer-edged abstract patterns, slowly resolve into clarity, and then dissolve again, in a constant journey in and out of legibility.
Canvas is permanently installed at 515 North State Street, Chicago (USA)

Preview edit of an eight stories tall, permanent video installation in the atrium at Wells Fargo Center, in Denver. Five 90' tall LED columns show a combination of real time, generative media and 3D animations. 3,600 3D birds fly in real-time, flocking according to algorithmic rules of logic. Thousands of instagram photos compose huge mosaic landscapes, showcasing the work of local artists. Waterfalls cascade in different directions according to the exterior wind direction, and groves of trees change in harmony with the seasons.

This video is some documentation i shot of a permanent video installation that I worked on last year with ESI Design. I work as a senior designer at ESI, and I was the lead designer on this project. The client was Beacon Capital Partners, and the project was installed at their property at 221 Main St, in San Francisco.
