1. Rex McGee is a fascinating banjo player. He seems to have one foot firmly planted in tradition and one foot firmly planted in innovation. His celtic playing on the five string banjo is first rate, his original pieces are cutting edge, and his ideas about family and carrying on musical traditions are inspirational. On October 17, 2016, Rex sat down with us to demonstrate and talk about his fascinating banjo style and many other things. During our talk he provided many musical examples and demonstrations of his unique style and ideas about banjo playing.

In this, the first half of the interview, Rex talks about his fiddle playing grandparents, various music festivals, celtic playing and much more.

  2. John Bullard is one of the more intriguing banjo players that I know. He can play traditional bluegrass and newgrass, but he is more known for his work playing classical banjo. Works from composers like Bach, Visee, Scarlatti and many others are John's main focus and I would say that he is a pioneer in this field.

On May 3, 2016, John sat down with us and talked about the first time he discovered banjo music, various musical endeavors he has participated in and classical banjo in general. Most interesting is that he also talks about his early musical influences and meeting Fred Boyce, a Virginia banjo player who was instrumental in helping him find his path into classical banjo and ended up being his mentor, teacher, and friend along the way. We hear about his time studying classical banjo at Virginia Commonwealth University, and much more. This interview includes many musical examples of things John discusses and gives us a rare glimpse into his life.

  5. On August 18, 2014 Jens Kruger sat down with a film crew from Radford University and told us about his musical life. Part 1 ends as as he and his wife decide to come to America where they meet up and are befriended by Bill Monroe.

Viewers may notice mild audio distortion at points during the program. This occurred as the result of unforeseen equipment and voltage issues. Such a special moment in time was captured, however, that it was decided to present Jens' story 'as is'.
