Jesus only had three and a half years to develop His ministry and set the doctrine for the church until He came back a second time. A house needs a strong foundation if it is to survive and Jesus built His ministry upon the Laws of God. Jesus was the ultimate authority while He was on the earth but that position was taken over by the Holy Spirit when He left.
The basic program of preaching repentance, casting out demons, and healing the sick has never changed. Nor has the Devil’s program since he questioned God’s commandment to Adam and Eve and it would be naïve to think that he would not continue to attack the church’s foundation. False prophets are used to lead the people into doctrines that destroy faith and obedience; therefore, we must be sure that the doctrine we hold is true and defend it against those who are bent on destroying the works of God.
Many Christians have not understood the meaning of the two Covenants in relation to the Law of God and mistakenly equate the first Covenant with the Law. Pastor John looks at the New Testament passages which speak about the Law, specifically, what parts of the Law were abolished and which still stand?
There has been a concerted effort by pastors, evangelists and Bible teachers over the years to eradicate the Law from the church resulting in the establishment of false doctrine. Pastor John examines these cherry picked verses and how they have been taken out of context and used to deceive ignorant Christians who do not study the Word of God. Are you walking in holiness and blessed by obeying God's commandments?
The New Testament is a written commentary on the Old Testament which cannot be disregarded because the doctrine of salvation is based upon it. Most Christians think the word "Law" in the New Testament simply refers to the Ten Commandments but it really refers the five Books of Moses which are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is from these books that we receive the Moral, Practical and the Sacrificial Laws.
Jesus only fulfilled the Sacrificial Law when he died upon the cross but some would argue that the cross also nullified the Moral and Practical part of the Law as well. While they have nothing to do with salvation they have everything to do with being obedient to the commandments of God. The apostle Paul taught salvation by grace and not by works but he never made God’s Law void; instead, he established it through Jesus Christ. Join Pastor John as he examines if God’s Law has been made void and what it means for you and me.
Satan deceived the people of Israel to develop the Talmud and the Cabala in order to get them away from the Old Testament, and once Jesus founded the church and the Holy Spirit developed the New Testament, he set out to destroy this as well. Satan hates the Bible and is relentless in trying to destroy it.
The early attacks came in burning Bibles and then the Devil had them locked up while the sermons were spoken in Latin. He influenced men to create their own false translations and even had a couple of clergymen produce a bastard Greek manuscript which all Bible versions for the last hundred years are based upon. Then there are Christians who erroneously superimpose their national culture on the Bible and destroy it with their interpretation.
In order to destroy the works of the Devil, you need to know his tactics. The Bible says that “...the joy of the Lord is my strength,” but most people don’t pursue it and so their lives are mediocre and they function through sheer discipline.
In order for the Devil to attack you, he must first take away your joy so that you will be open to the filth which he will put into your mind. Praise is an offensive weapon because it is not an emotion but a choice. Praise doesn't look at circumstances and it drives away all fear. Satan is therefore unable to penetrate your shield of faith when you praise the Lord because praise is born out of faith and this is what the joy of the Lord will do for you.
Think of this the next time you’re at the corner of Praise Avenue and Complaining Court, which way will you go? Remember, it’s not so important how you begin your life after salvation, but how you finish it!
