  3. Blooper Reel.
While we were testing out the new 5D Mark II on location in Colorado, we had to find creative ways to keep our audio from distorting with the camera's auto gain feature.

When there is no noise going through the mic the auto gain feature in the camera turns the gain up to compensate for the quietness. The problem comes when you say your first line into the mic and it's highly distorted because the gain was turned all the way up. The temporary work around on the field became making a noise into the mic to 'level off' the gain before starting a line. The result became a hilarious blooper reel. Enjoy! :)

We recently purchased the Beachtek DXA-5D to overcome this auto gain problem.

The resulting footage from this shoot looked beautiful.

  5. Grandpa Mac is THE all around authority on life, the universe, and everything awesome!

"The Good Life - With Grandpa Mac" is the latest in a series of high school discussion starters, created by VIDANO Films (vidano.com) in partnership with Ed McVaney (co-founder of JD Edwards), to accompany the book "Living The Good Life".

The challenge was to create something memorable…to find a creative and entertaining way to engage young people in a discussion, and keep them coming back. Vidano immediately set out to create a BRAND for "The Good Life" series. And from that... Lights. Camera. Action! Grandpa Mac emerged...accompanied by quirks, humor, attitudes, opinions and all.

With the help of Dave Stotts and Tom Small (design + animation), VIDANO Films emerged with an unconventional, humorous, animation style seen in these productions. Narrated by Grandpa Mac's granddaughter, the topics are values-based. The style is definitely quircky. The humor...random. But the message is spot on.
