Duncanson: An Antebellum African American Artist. Regular hours: Wednesday–Saturday 1–5 p.m., closed Sunday through Tuesday. The gallery will be closed the week of Thanksgiving. Location The Wallach Art Gallery is located on the 8th floor of Schermerhorn Hall on Columbia University's Morningside Campus. Directions to Schermerhorn Hall are available on the Department of Art History and Archaeology website. A list of parking garages is available on the Columbia University website. To reach the Morningside Campus of Columbia University by public transit, take the No. 1 train or the No. 104 bus to 116th Street. Enter the campus via the main gates located at 116th Street and Broadway.

  4. The list of the rich and famous who are buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx reads like a veritable Who’s Who of late 19th and early 20th century New York high society. On Sept. 3, Sylvan Cemetery: Architecture, Art and Landscape at Woodlawn will open at Columbia’s Wallach Gallery. The exhibition, timed to coincide with the cemetery’s 150th anniversary celebration, marks the first time selections from the Woodlawn archive will be displayed.

  5. Lush Murals Enliven Miller Theatre’s Lobby

    Glance through the glass doors of the Miller Theatre and you will see vivid, large-scale paintings pulsating with color on the lobby walls. At night the artworks glow, and passersby take selfies against the backdrop of the brightly colored Xs in repeating patterns.

    Artist Maya Hayuk created the three site-specific murals for the Miller lobby over three days in October; they will remain on view throughout the spring semester. The works represent the second annual collaboration on a lobby installation between Miller and the Wallach Art Gallery.
