1. New sermon series bumper for my church. This was a really fun project to work on. In our initial creative team meeting a few sermon series titles/looks/feels were tossed around. This idea of the "perfect family Christmas" going not so perfect really stuck out to me. We decided on the title "Surviving Christmas" and this idea immediately flooded my mind. I have seen time freeze videos in the past on television (and a swarm of them on youtube) but I've only ever seen them used for action shorts/ads (ie bullet time, explosions, etc). My next step was to learn a technique. After a day or two of looking up tutorials and only finding ones involving 3D rendering programs and expensive tracking tools...I decided to use what I had and figure out myself.

The trick I found was planning out the shot, the camera motion, and the objects. I went into these three shots knowing pretty much exactly what I wanted to get. I like using pull away shots for these types of videos because it gives the objects a chance to enter in from the bottom or sides of the frame, adding to the realism of the shot. I lit each set with some cheapo video lights from amazon (they are cheap but get the job done-use what you have). Filmed each shot at 60fps, giving me a nice slow pull away shot. Once I got the shot, my best bud Jim would hold each object at a different angel while I took a quick photo. We did this for each scene. I then cut out each object in Photoshop, saved them as a .png, and then imported them into my AE project. I didnt have time to mess with 3D objects and renders so I thought why not just use 2D images in 3D space. Anyhow I got the look I wanted and am very pleased with the results. DM me for more info on how I got this look.
