The Mike Vensel Fall / Winter 2012 collection is titled Horus Hawk and expands from his previous collection to explore a theory that the ancient Egyptians were visited by aliens which helped bring much of the technology that helped shape the modern world. Much of the ancient Egyptians clothing, art and design was simple, elegant and used geometric principles that still apply to modern day aesthetics. With two primary forms as a starting point, the wing and the diamond each piece is derived from wing theory and tapered rounded shapes or diamond theories and rectangular forms. The fabrics used range from soft layers to rigid architectural forms and focus on silk, bamboo, cotton and suede. In a study of black and white we see the contrasting yet harmonious ideas at play with dashes of vibrant blues, golds and silvers giving subtle hints of luxury and opulence while maintaining simple minimalist ideas.
