This piece is an excerpt from a larger work called "On Poetics" by BC composer Scott Edward Godin. Its full title is "Melos (Melody); Dianoia (Thought)" and is performed here by the magnificent Victoria Guitar Trio. The full work appears on their new CD "Concentric Rings" redshiftrecords.org/releases/tk450/
The piece is a clever deconstruction and reconstruction of an old blues classic by Blind Willie Johnson made famous by Ry Cooder for the 1984 Wim Wenders film "Paris, Texas". I've always loved the piece, the film and this trio's work. I chose to shoot some evocative, dream-like scenery in the desert areas of central Washington State to mirror the slightly woozy effect of the music. We then had the trio perform at Ironworks studio on a dark, rainy fall day. The challenge then became to evoke the feel of a shack interior on a warm sunny afternoon!
