1. What if you could look at the source code behind any online visualization, check what data sources it uses, reproduce the results and modify any of its parameters?
In this talk, I will present a data visualization project that I created around the Olympic games (rio2016.thegamma.net) which visualizes interesting facts about Olympic medals, but more importantly - lets you modify existing visualizations, interactively explore the data on your own and share your insights.

Along the way, you will learn about building functional client-side web applications with F# and Fable – the F# to JavaScript compiler for 21st century. I will discuss how type providers change how we think about data, how functional types save the day and let you model complex domain (of data transformations) with a few lines of code and how immutability and functional programming make it easier to build interactive web applications (and what nice patterns can we learn from Elm)

  2. The web is becoming more and more powerful everyday, especially with the launch of Progressive Web Apps. PWAs are experiences that combine the best of the web and the best of apps.
You can now build web apps that run from your home screen, receive push notifications & work offline.

Join this talk for an interactive introduction into the world of Progressive Web Apps.

  3. The JavaScript community is relatively immature in the testing space, with many people making the same mistakes many other communities have been making for ages.
In this talk Jake will be covering many of the mistakes he has made in testing over the years in other ecosystems and how he has taken these learnings to write great JavaScript tests which are a pleasure to work with and do not get in your way.

  4. The internet is not just full of cats. There is useful stuff on there too, like dogs, Netflix and internet connected fridges.
This talk shows you how to use some of the most common tools that you probably use everyday in another way. Think life hacks, with more focus on the hacking. We will go through how to use Google to evaluate your security, find out what the internet really knows about your network and attempt to answer the question, why would someone want to connect a toilet to the internet?

  5. Agile is not just for software development. Long before the Manifesto was written manufacturers have been using iterative cycles to build cars, engines, photocopiers and cameras. The core agile concept of 'build, measure, learn' lends itself well to the development of many different types of product.
But what would happen if you tried to apply agile thinking to an individual pursuit, such as marathon running? Can an iterative approach help the training process? How can you take the principles of agile software development and rethink running? In this session we'll leave the sprints behind, move quickly and easily along the course and cross the finish line with a new perspective on how agile thinking can run far beyond tech projects.
