  1. "To move forward, we must look back."
After the death of his grandfather (Oupa), Jan locks himself inside his grandparent’s house – determined to hold onto their memory. The limbo Jan finds himself in proves to be the catalyst for inspiration as he discovers possessions within the house that will change his life forever.

Based on true events, Typical Life merges the mediums of film and music to create a ‘Music Film’, using original 16 & 8mm footage shot by the Director’s (Jas Miszewski) great grandmother accompanied by the experimental guitar sounds of Israeli born Hvetter.

The film contains original, never before seen footage of the inauguration of the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria in 1949 and Hitler Youth marching in Rothenberg in 1939, just a few months before World War Two broke out.

    Some History:

Just over a year ago, Jas Miszewski's (Writer/Director) Grandfather passed away and left him all the 16mm film, 8mm film, Tape and VHS Footage his family has shot, some dating back to 1910. All together the footage runs just under 250 hours in length.

The film ‘Typical Life’ was shot in the original family home of Jas’s Grandparents, build in 1972 at the foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. After the death of his Grandfather, his Grandmother moved out of the house with all the worldly possessions - leaving a stark reminder of the memories formed in each space.

The film is also somewhat of a homage to camera’s and film technology. The technology ranges from a handheld Arriflex Super 16mm film camera to a RED Dragon fitted with Zeiss Prime lenses. The film footage was originally cut & spliced by hand by Jas’s Great Grandmother - Ouma Annie - digitised in Australia and finally edited into ‘Typical Life’ using Premiere Pro in South Africa.

    - ABOUT THE FILM -

Le Gouffre is the first animated short film produced and directed by Lightning Boy Studio, a young creative team based in Montreal. The film tells the story of two spirited travelers who come across an incredibly wide chasm on their journey and decide to build a bridge to cross it. Released in February 2015, the project had first gained a lot of attention following the huge success of its Kickstarter campaign, which allowed the creators to finance the movie's post-production. Many were impressed by the passion and determination of the small team of three animators, who spent more than two full years creating the 10-minute film.

As of now, Le Gouffre has been selected in more than 60 festivals around the world and won nine awards, four of them for "Best Animated Short".

    - THE TEAM-

Lightning Boy Studio was born in 2012 out of a shared passion : to tell great stories. The three founders met in animation school in 2009 and have dreamed ever since to be able to work together on projects of their own. Le Gouffre is the result of their first collaboration. The team is now working on a new idea for an animated feature film and is looking for partners and investors to join in on this adventure.

  5. Spend a couple of days on Terschelling. A good surrounding to test the Canon C100 Mark II. Captured it with the Ninja Blade, codec ProRes 422 HQ. Mainly shot it handheld, and with a small slider. Lens: 10-18mm. Edited & graded with FCPx.
