1. This assignment was supposed to capture either Toronto Pride or the Canada-150 birthday celebration. Due to previous commitments, I was only able to capture what I was doing over those two weekends and I was preparing Eid gift baskets for Syrian newcomer families who were experiencing their first Ramadan and Eid in Canada. This project was being done for the second time this year by the Danforth Multifaith Community (of which I am one of the founders). This edited piece was intended to capture the fun and joy of community in Little India on the evening of Eid after thirty days of fasting.

  2. This 1:1 interview is with my incredible neighbour, Dr. Elise Heon who is a world renowned pediatric eye surgeon at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Sadly, Elise had to sequence herself in her own research lab after finding a small bump in her breast (she was told she was not eligible for publically funded genetic testing). This led to her discovery that she was carrying the Brac-1 cancer gene. She has since undergone a double mastectomy and had her ovaries removed. In the interview she reflects on the lack of "quality of life" considerations she felt her medical team of experts exhibited during this challenging time. It has been a real eye opener (pun intended ;-) for Elsie who is always considering the whole picture in her practice when she is treating children with eye disease.

  3. This first 1:1 video interview with Ethel was a testament to how important it is to be prepared before you start interviewing. Can't remind myself of that enough! Only after I had completed the interview and done mine (for Ethel to edit) did I realize I did not get sound on my interview with Ethel. We went back in a hurry to re-do her interview and in the craziness I did not rebalance my WB. So poor Ethel - she is white balanced for the white girl! ;-( Luckily, Ethel is a great interview -- very articulate and with interesting things to say about her adapting to life in Canada over time and finding her "true self" during that journey.

  4. This was a "build-on" assignment. Where we took the knowledge of our 1:1 "on-camera" interview and went to shoot the person in verite style with visuals that would support the interview content and tone.

  5. Part Two of the three-part video memoir of Max Sternthal. This part starts with Max's description of the "code of honour" he was always trying to live by and he goes on to tell the story of how he met his wife Phyllis, married her and then got to know her by raising a family with her.
