The land that would become City Park was left to the city by John McDonough in 1850. It was full of beautiful Live Oaks and appx. 100 acres.
In 1891, a year after dueling was banned, City Park Improvement Association was founded and the property officially established as "City Park".
On July 4th, 1917, Popp's Bandstand,a beautiful piece of acoustic architecture was completed.
I did a painting of it shortly after Hurricane Katrina and learned what this beautiful building was at that time. I also realized that it was being used for family picnics and barbecues but not as a music venue.
I put the idea of filming a set there at dawn to a few musicians.
At dawn on April 10th, 2011, Darel Poche' performed for the camera.
