  4. In this interactive course, participants discover depth and meaning in life stories through exploration of major life themes. Participants write a story on the weekly theme and share two pages in class within a supportive small group. By writing and sharing stories, individuals give their memories context and meaning, gain insight to reevaluate their past and influence their future, and connect with others to form a community of creativity and personal expression. No writing experience is necessary.

    Joanne Horn, an experienced human relations consultant, has a background of mental health research and program development. From 1987 to 2007, she owned Conflict Resolution Service, Inc.—offering mediation, facilitation, conflict management and training services for families and organizations throughout Washington State. As a dynamic, engaging adult educator, Joanne has trained diverse populations and specialized in developing interactive curricula. She served as adjunct faculty for Antioch University and has taught at the University of Washington Medical School as well as Seattle University and University of Washington law schools. Actively engaged in the field of aging, as director of Second Half Connections, Joanne provides workshops to promote creativity and offer opportunities for renewed meaning and direction in the second half of life. She has earned a certificate of instructor training from the Birren Autobiographical Studies as well as certificates of Geriatric Mental Health and Memoir Writing from the University of Washington.
