1. After 21 days of ski guiding I was ready to get out and stretch the arms. Raphael, Juan and I decided to head up Storm Creek, just up from the Stanley Headwall, to check a couple mixed climbs, Xena (named after Raphael's cat) and Cosban (named after Eamonn Walsh's dog). Two awesome climbs, side by side, decorated with thin ice, featured limestone and natural rock gear.

    A fantastic day out!

  2. Peer into the world of Arc'teryx athlete Jon Walsh as he climbs ice near his home in the Canadian Rockies. Jon climbs the route "Ice Nine", which is located off the aptly named Icefields Parkway in Alberta.

  3. This film commemorates the life of Guy Lacelle, who was regarded as one of the world's leading ice climbers. In 2009, at the age of 54, Lacelle was killed by an avalanche during a climbing competition in Bozeman, Montana. A pioneer in the ice climbing world, Lacelle was the first to show what can be done on vertical ice and established some of the most difficult ice climbs in the world.

This film is an official selection at the Banff Mountain Film Festival 2010

  4. A short video about Matt Horner, Matt McCormick and I's ascent of a route we called Endanger Species on Poke-O-Moonshine in New York's Adirondacks. This stunning 65m strip of thin ice came in about 30' right of the famous Gorillas in the Mist. Gorrillas is a Jeff Lowe and Ed Palin route from 1996 that has seen only one repeat, and it was that same weekend by Alex Lowe and Randy Rackliff.

We added on more pitch after the ice, the so called "Horner Corner", and rapped off a tree on a good ledge. Good friends, Kevin Mahoney and Freddie Wilkinson, repeated the route a few weeks later and added a final pitch to the summit cone.

A little bit of video got lost exporting the file.

  5. As a part-time Black Diamond ski tech rep and a full-time Black Diamond climbing athlete, Sam Elias may have been a ski racer growing up but now he's a rock and ice hard charger with numerous 5.14 and M12 redpoints and first ascents to his credit. We sent pro lensman Boone Speed out to Colorado to capture a little slice of Sam's life and style, as well as some beastly mixed climbing action.

Alps - conditions for ice climbing
facebook.com/groups/535668349779087/

This is a forum open for everyone who wants to share information about ice climbing conditions in Alps (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland).

This kind of page on FB works well in Norway (facebook.com/156612854443049). I hope that its "Alpine edition" will be equally useful and popular in the future.

Share information about ice conditions in the area in which the last tarried with other climbers. It will be a great help to them in planning trips.
