    Within his Five-Step Model Flusser explains how communication evolved from direct interaction with the world to mediation through various technologies.
    The film is based on sound recordings of a talk which he held in 1990 in Budapest.

    Die 360° Fulldome-Projektionsanlage wird seit 2010 vom Fachbereich Design an der Fachhochschule Potsdam in Kooperation mit dem Planetarium Potsdam betrieben. Die Projektionsanlage ist ein speziell für die Fachhochschule Potsdam und die Urania angepasstes Powerdome-System der Firma Carl Zeiss, das mit Hilfe des Frauenhofer-Institus FIRST dahingehend weiterentwickelt wurde, dass das System nun auch zur Darstellung von interaktiven Echtzeitvisualisierungen genutzt werden kann. Der Powerdome dient somit nicht nur zur Vermittlung astronomischen Wissens, sondern hat das Potential, durch immersive Darstellungsformen ungewöhnliche und innovative Ansichten von hochkomplexen Daten zu erzeugen.

  4. DARK is a fulldome movie that explains and explores the nature of Dark Matter, the missing 80% of the mass of the Universe.

    The search for Dark Matter is the most pressing astrophysical problem of our time – the solution to which will help us understand why the Universe is as it is, where it came from, and how it has evolved over billions of years – the unimaginable depths of deep time, of which a human life is but a flickering instant.

    But in that instant, we can grasp its immensity and, through science, we can attempt to understand it.

    The movie is presented by Dr Alan Duffy, a brilliant young astronomer from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) at the University of Western Australia – who creates simulations of Dark Matter evolution inside supercomputers.

    Alan introduces us to the idea of Dark Matter, why astronomers think it exists, and explains why Radio Astronomy is so well-suited to its discovery.

    We explore why the new Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) Telescope, currently under construction in remote Western Australia, will be so important in this scientific quest.

    But this is only the beginning.

    We journey through completely immersive visualisations of Dark Matter evolution calculated upon some of the world’s fastest supercomputers – cosmological visions on a truly vast scale, in which galaxies themselves are but points of light, distributed across far larger intergalactic structures of Dark Matter. These visualisations, developed by Paul Bourke, demonstrate the cutting-edge of contemporary supercomputer visualisation of massive scientific datasets and astrophysical simulation.

    It sounds like Science Fiction, but it’s not. It’s the real stuff. Real Data, seen in this way for the very first time.

  5. a small midi-note driven ray-traced scene.
    again, the composition is straight from the Matrix (see vimeo.com/defgsus/techyes). some handmade patterns are added to the beat-section.

    this is only a little test. the final version will hopefully be shown at the http://fulldome.org.uk 2012.
    clearly needs another visualization feature for the beat-part. also there is no designed animation of the scene parameters (lights, environment, colors) and the camera path is only some dull function of time.

    rendering technique is distance-field ray-marching written in GLSL.
    the sky and surface represent the sonic wave-field of the strings and the bass respectively. they are rendered in separate passes and fed to the ray-marcher. partly with some low-pass filtering over time to make it less jumpy.

    framework, once again, is Touch Designer. the whole scene runs at 30fps in 320x320 on a GTX 560 Ti. this 1024x1024 rendering reached about 3 fps. the sequence is oversampled 4 times and the frames are averaged together (120 > 30 fps). the sky image is the one from the TD library, resampled in various ways to make it fit on the half-sphere.
