In this stunning encounter with the curious Humpback Whales and their calves off the shore of Vava’u in the Kingdom of Tonga, we explore the possibilities of non-verbal communication underwater as well as on land as we drive around the pacific island in an older but seemingly indestructible C-Class.
For Australian freediver and marine biologist Lucas Handley, who is experienced in his interaction with sharks, this is the first time he gets up close with these giant acrobats of the sea. And they don’t disappoint!

No animals were harmed in the making of this film and the required distance was kept. A fully trained and licensed local whaleboat operator was used. We thank the people of Vava’u for all their support while we stayed on their beautiful island.
