This is a video I made for Gensler Chicago about three years ago while I was still a student at NYU. We didn't have access to anything HD, so I had to make due with the Sony Handycam we had, but I think that this does a good job of communicating the experience of Chicago, documenting the symbiotic relationship between the life flow of the city and its affect on design, which in turn continues to inform being in Chicago.
Gensler is an active participant in this innovation, and I hope that this video shows how the idea/abstract becomes material, and how a space is not only created but defined by the people that envision and inhabit it.
The first step is that this film has come because of an actual event, that had happened in front of my eyes to a my favorite childhood friend, who died of a heart attack as throwing stones into the sea ... It is a childhood memory and the questions I had as a child have been unanswered ...
The second step is that I believe all human concepts are projections of the human spirit so ultimately it is often illusory. We see the reality we perceive (as we think it is). Everything we see is an interpretation of reality, based on subjective, faulty or biased examples. This has implications not only in how we understand the world but αlso how we understand people. Man gets conscious of what he already knows. The knowledge (learning) is memory (remembrance), so inside us there is the memory of us ..
