SAIC Conversations

Using the city as a laboratory, Unwrapping Design and Architecture (AIADO 4932, New Arts Journalism 5240) explores critical approaches to “reading and listening” to the multiplicity of architecture and design processes active in the built environment. Readings, discussions, and lectures frame on-site investigations and assignments, exposing students to experiences that identify design’s multivariant intentions. Students take an active role in analyzing and communicating these intents from a critical, value-based perspective to involve citizens in public discourse. Architectural theory readings are critically examined in dialogue with current journalists as students develop architectural writings about Chicago.
