  5. This is the opening scene of "The Great Indian Marriage Bazaar", 2012 Silver Award for Best Asian Social Issues Documentary Film, New York Television Awards.

In the middle of a family wedding, documentary filmmaker, Ruchika is put on the spot as her aunts poke at her about 'mission son-in-law'. As the pressure mounts, Ruchika navigates through the 'marriage bazaar' by giving a quirky and profoundly raw first-hand account of the process. The film also explores the various businesses and middle-men involved in the process such as matrimonial websites, agents and private investigators. As India is the home to 40 percent of the world's marriages, of which 90 percent of these are arranged, the film intertwines the process of an arranged marriage by following two brides-to-be: Sonali, a police woman from a working class and Preeti, a middle-class family-oriented girl who is interested in finding a match from her specific ethnic community. Through these stories, the film looks at the modern-day crisis urban Indian women face when thrown into the great 'marriage bazaar'.
